Open House Night
Schedule- School Day-8:00-3:30
See handout*
Planner- It is required to have a planner everyday. Your child will write in them so you can get the information and support what needs to be done for the next day. Please! Please! Ask to see their planner daily. This will give you an idea of the day and upcoming week. I will check them quarterly and will give a grade for organization.
Homework/”Real World” Assignments- I am firm in the belief that homework is a means of additional support and repetition, not discovery of new information. So, I ask for you to aide and support with homework, but not for longer than 45 minutes each night. If it runs past 45 minutes, stop and have them come to me early to discuss in how I can help. If you notice that the workload is longer than 45 minutes, it is due to procrastination.
“Real World” Assignments- As a teacher, nothing makes me happier than a good parent-to-child school relationship. Math/Science might not be your expertise, but in our “Real World“ assignments this is the time to tell/teach about your experience and advice. Please take an active role with these assignments. Kids are very proud when they talk about how Mom/Dad helped them.
Morning Help- I will be here every morning at 7:15am to work with students who need additional support. If you have a hard time at night, arrange to drop them off at 7:15am for individual help.
Spelling – I have decided to discontinue our weekly spelling. We now have a daily writing curriculum that we will use to support in spelling.
Perfect Spelling Expectation- We need to be unified in not allowing a single misspelled word. If we create the atmosphere at school and home that our students need to take the time and learn how to spell the word correctly. Hopefully this will set the bar high for our students.
Classroom Ringer- If a word is misspelled, the student will write the word correctly on a note card and then put it on their ringer. Students must write the word twenty times and write it in two different sentence and turn into me for the word to be removed from the ringer. This must be completed by the end of each month. If the word is misspelled again in the future, the same process will happen again. So a good question to ask is….what words do you have on your ringer?
Reading Olympics- You all know how Reading Olympics works at N.R.C.C.S.. My goal is to have each and every student of mine at least understand the enjoyment of reading. So I will do whatever possible within the requirements of R.O. to find that “ah-ha” moment with each student. That is the purpose of R.O. and it’s very important for success in high school.
Please feel free to contact me regarding anything.
