Grades 5-6

Welcome to the 5th and 6th grade Class’ website!

Warning! This website contains material that will inspire, intrigue and inform. Monday through Friday, thirteen unique brilliant minds gather in Clark, Colorado to learn, explore and share. Search around the page for examples of our learning, pictures of us, and important information.

Expectations:

It’s in our school name and it dictates the attitude of this classroom- COMMUNITY! All who enter the Spruce room are held to the same expectations.

1. Respect others with your words and actions

2. Be a good communicator. When listening, look at the speaker. Raise your hand and wait for your turn to speak.

3. Be on time and be prepared.

4. Follow directions the first time they are given.

5. Keep the desks, lockers, class and school clean and organized.

Homework:      There is just so much to know and discover! Spending time after school reading or reviewing is a great way to better understand what is happening in the class discussions and assignments.Be sure to always follow these Homework Rules.

- Every student is required to record assignments in an assignment notebook (Ms. Fritz provides one). At this time, a parent signature is required every night. This ensures students are responsible for taking their homework folders home AND taking it out of their backpacks. Thanks parents for your continued support in this matter!

- Packets are given out on Mondays and due at the beginning of the last school day of the week (usually Friday). When all students do indeed have their packets in on time, the entire class will rejoice in celebration on Monday with a delectable treat. If packets are not on time, the student will call their parents and miss recess on Monday (and no one will enjoy a treat). Also the packet will be due on Monday.

- At times, a student may also have math, literacy or other homework. Bot math and literacy are due the following day.

Ms. Laura Fritz grew up mostly in South Dakota, but before settling down here in North Routt, has lived throughout the West. Since graduating from University of Nebraska-Lincoln with her undergraduate degree, Ms. Fritz has worked for the National Park Service and as an Environmental Educator in Eagle County, CO. Most recently, Ms. Fritz earned her Master’s of Educational Psychology at the University of Colorado Denver.

Ms. Fritz believes that every student can be successful and grow in learning. She values hands-on inquiry and exploration to promote engagement. In her class, emphasis is placed on making connections between classroom learning and real-world applications. As the newest teacher at NRCCS, Ms. Fritz recognizes daily the amazing philosophy, community and priorities present at this school. In turn, she acknowledges how privileged she is to be a part of North Routt Community Charter School.

Math

We start everyday with Math in our homeroom and focus on metacognition. This is a fancy word for thinking about our thinking. Whenever we do a math problem, we are asked to explain how we arrived at this answer. Explaining our mathematical thinking challenges us and helps others learn another way of solving.
