On Tuesday, November 8th, the 3rd and 4th graders ventured off campus to Fish Creek Falls in Routt National Forest to observe first hand the largest watershed in the Steamboat Springs area. The very informative trip was lead by Elaine Sturges who talked to the students about the how the glacier flow impacted and helped create this very important land formation. The students also discussed the habitat, snowpack, and environmental consequences of erosion and pollution on the watershed and the Yampa River. This experience reinforced the water cycle and watershed expedition with which the students have been involved since the beginning of the school year. The students will follow up this real life experience with an assignment where the students create their own watershed or water cycle models.
Many thanks to Nora Tracy and Becky Heid for accompanying us on this trip. A very special thanks to Del’s Triangle Ranch for providing transportation for the class to Fish Creek Falls.
